Bishop Hogan Memorial School 'hit the jackpot' Saturday night with a crowd of generous people gathering for the school's 12th annual dinner and auction Saturday evening. The hallway, gymnasium, and classrooms of the school had a Las Vegas atmosphere with the theme of "Hitting the Jackpot with Catholic Education." The dinner and live auction took place inside the Diamond Room which, at other times, is the school's gymnasium. Music was played throughout the evening, and guests were treated to a catered meal. Dollar amounts have yet to be completely finalized, but organizers anticipate net proceeds to be around $60,000. "We are overwhelmed and grateful for the huge success of our dinner auction," Brobst said. "There were so many people who contributed to that success. We truly appreciate every one of them, including our fantastic community, church and school family. We are very blessed."

The evening saw its biggest crowd in recent years and had a record-setting 425 meals served. The dinner was donated by Hy-Vee. Hundreds of donated items were placed in classrooms along the "Las Vegas Strip" for the silent auction portion of the event. The live auction followed dinner, featuring the Mike Miller Auction Service. The top-dollar items selling during the live auction were a 2-story Cedar Summit Premium Play Set and a Kansas City Royals Suite for 20 people. Each sold for $2,400. Other big ticket items were vacations, a diamond ring, a hand-crafted white oak vanity and mirror, and a Ruger rifle. The top class item sold was an outdoor MU metal sign from the school's kindergarten class. A Las Vegas voucher, in the amount of $1,000, was won by Chuck Haney.

Brobst expressed appreciation to Chris Strub and Hy-Vee for sponsoring the meal and to Jeff Frampton for preparing it, as well as to Mike Miller, Dave May and the Mike Miller Auction Service crew. Funds raised through the event support the school's operation and educational needs. "The success of the event is very important to our school and its future operation," Brobst said. "It was a great night."
