CMS SPORTS PAIR WITH BISHOP HOGAN FOR ONE YEAR
The Chillicothe Middle School entered into a sports partnership with Bishop Hogan for the 2012-13 school year per a vote taken by the Chillicothe R-2 Board of Education on Tuesday, April 17, 2012.
The board decided, in a split 3-2 vote, to let students from Bishop Hogan Memorial School participate in CMS sports programs, such as football and wrestling (Bishop Hogan will continue to participate in their own basketball programs), for a one-year trial period. This "contract" was contingent upon the private Catholic school's agreement to have parents pay a specified portion of the Chillicothe R-2 school district's expected state funding per weighted average daily attendance (since the BHMS students could not be counted towards R-2 attendance rates, which are appraised when figuring district activity and educational funding), along with the current district pay-to-play rates. The participation fee for the Sports Coop was set at $350.00 per student, plus paying the play to pay fee(s). [The cost was very close to the BHS' band fee of $35.00 per month.]
When the Chillicothe School Board met on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 to decide on the Sports Coop for the Bishop Hogan 7th & 8th graders, Mrs. Brobst (principal) went to the meeting prepared with the necessary information from 17 other coop schools in Missouri, of which only 1 charged $20 to participate. It was decided that our students will only have to pay the $35 sports participation fee beginning with the 2013-2014 school year!
